Do you see the pictures above in the panel?  Do they look familiar?  I see females wearing these types of shoes on a daily basis, and many times it's not for fun, it's for WORK!  Some of you are looking at these pictures and thinking these are cute shoes, some of you are looking at these shoes and thinking the same thing I think, why torture yourself, and there's a third group that these are sitting in their closet and due to fashion dictate, dress code, for whatever reason these are work shoes. 

As nice as these shoes look they cause many problems with the feet themselves that can make your life miserable, bunions, corns, callouses, neuromas, ball of the foot pain, hammertoes, tendonitis, plantar fascia issues, heel spurs, shortening of the achilles tendons, and pump bumps at the back of the heels, and these are just the areas the shoes cover up.  In the rest of your body these shoes cause shortened calf muscles, osteoarthritis in the knees and hips eventually leading to replacement and because of posture it effects your lumbar vertebrae as well which eventually causes disc degeneration and sciatica.  Plus it's just painful torture as your feet get your around and with every step you feel the pain of all of these potential conditions!

I'm a realist, I do realize that due to fashion dictate or dress code at work these types of shoes are a necessity.  Even if your shoes aren't quite like these standing for long periods of time even in flat shoes or unsupportive shoes for long periods of time can cause painful conditions as well (the achilles is stretched instead of shortened, and the calf muscles are very tight as well).  I extensively studied reflexology and the biomechanics of the feet in my massage therapy training because of working at Heidi's Salons (a higher end salon that is now closed in the Detroit area) and having many friends in retail and in the serving/bartending field I noticed that this is a MAJOR ISSUE ESPECIALLY FOR FEMALES.  I have many clients who wear these shoes for style or for work and stand or move for long periods of time without many breaks and I realize this can be painful enough for males however most of the ones I've seen don't wear heels doing it.  I even notice females wearing these types of shoes when pregnant which just further distorts your posture and makes these shoes doubly painful.

Why are these shoes painful and bad for you?

Gravity is a big contributor as your feet mainly stay on the ground it causes blood to not flow correctly and causes major pain, sometimes numbness.  It also causes waste products called Crystallines to form in your feet as well.  This swelling can make your feet a size larger after long hours of standing or moving around many times in uncomfortable shoes.  It causes shoes to not fit anymore and causes many of the foot problems mentioned above.  Not only that it sucks to have your feet feel like they've been tortured all day, it gets into your head and a good foot massage can make even the worst of days very awesome :)!

What can you do about it?

Well my massages contain reflexology (charts following), pressure point therapy, myofascial release all in one, I use these techniques to restore blood flow to the feet.  I also use the Peppermint Foot Lotion from The Body Shop and Bath and Body Works which also promotes cooling of the feet and causes the circulation to become more pronounced.  These measures cure even the most unruly of foot pain in a matter of minutes.  I do generally include this in my regular massage however I've had a MAJORITY of my clients request 1-2 hours done just to their feet which is incredibly relaxing and an experience that should be tried to be believed!  I'm not saying your feet are going to feel great at work, however regular work done on your feet helps make these times MUCH MORE BEARABLE.

I realize that people who have to stand a lot have job in retail, hair styling, serving, flight attendants crew (I am near a major Delta Hub), dancing/entertainment to name a few generally aren't rolling in money so I offer EXTREMELY REASONABLE PRICING and a generous REFERRAL DISCOUNT in order to make my work affordable to people that otherwise couldn't afford to do so but need work.  I also do the work in your home, office, events, weddings, parties, even during busy seasons at the stores where I know people I've done foot massages in back/storage rooms, and out in the common areas of malls (since if all you want is a foot massage you don't have to disrobe). 

I'm including some reflexology charts that include what areas of the body can be effected by reflexology.  If you take nothing away from this, just take care of yourself, trust me when I say this, your feet are used a lot and abusing them will catch up to you one day.  I have had clients that have had knee replacements, severe chronic back pain, sciatica and other painful conditions from not taking care of their feet.  If you need references to confim that this is the best of my practice I can provide those if you wish, some of them are below.  These charts are here to give you an idea of what parts of your body your feet effect.

I know these charts are different, these are to give you a general idea of what reflexology does!  I have had many clients who feel as good as after a full body massage after receiving this treatment and most clients when I do hit certain points on the foot do actually feel the connectivity between these spots on these charts and corresponding parts of the body!  I usually add this toward the end of a full body massage or this can be a standalone service as well!



Special to reflexology services exclusively I use the LIMITED EDITION Twisted Peppermint lotion for foot reflexology which is a delightful lotion that cools, restores circulation, deodorizes, and moisturizes dry skin on the feet!  Twisted Peppermint has a great scent of Peppermint, Vanilla, and White Sugar!
